Reaction to Foxsay's speech

Last week, we had a debate because the boys of the class wanted to present us a new house. First I was very surprised. It’s a good idea to show us that they don’t necessarily agree with us, so they made a short video where we could watch a big forest coated with a beautiful white snow and they put a music that made you want to see more. At the end, there was the coat of arms, which represents the iconic animal: the fox. It was surprising, they were really involved in defending their House and I found it good.

Their argument was that they found the house named Golden Roses too effeminate. They were convincing, but there was a problem: the timing. In my opinion, they were too late, they showed us their house a week before the start of the competition and in addition to that the Houses of the other classes have already been elected for several weeks so we were very late and having a second House would have been very complicated.

Unlike them, I don’t think that the « Golden Roses » is too effeminate, the lion breaks the feminine side of the House and gives an image of warriors of us to the others. Having two houses will be very complicated because the class will be divided into two groups, the other classes will not take us seriously and will say that we are not capable of choosing a House which will represent us.

As for the points, it will be complicated to consider them according to the classes, as it will be necessary to take into account that there will be 2 separate groups.

Furthermore, every house has approximately 30 students, and if we create 2 houses there will not be many students in each, thus it would not be really possible to add a new house. The solution could be that we mix the characteristics of both Houses. It could be a good idea, but it’s again a matter of time.

Reaction to Foxsay's speech

The Foxsay House made a speech and showed us a video presentation of their house. They had good arguments and the video was good and well done. They think that the Golden Roses house is too « girly » and they want to make a house which is a little less « girly ».
I think they are right because the motto of this house is « pretty dangerous » and the symbol is a lion with a rose in his mouth, what’s more the colors are red and gold.
But we all have already voted for this House, they should have told us about it what as we were voting. Now I think it's too late to vote again and that this is impossible to have two houses because if we do, we will be less credible and people will think that we do not stick together.
I think that blending the two houses is a good idea and everyone would be happy because if we keep all the characteristics of the Golden Roses House, this would be unfair for Foxsay and if we change our House and choose Foxsay this would be unfair for The Golden Roses because, at the beginning, everyone had voted for this House. Maybe we should change the motto and we could blend the two logos.

Reaction to Foxsay's speech

When I heard that a group of boys only wanted to present a different House, I was shocked; it came out of the blue. From the beginning, everybody in our class had agreed on the Golden Roses. We had a vote and they won. I don’t think it is fair they should be allowed to run again because as I said we already had a vote and they lost!
I’d say that it is absolutely NOT a good idea to have two houses even if their group seems determined and made a good video. It is too complicated to have two houses.
What’s more a lion is aggressive, takes up most of our logo. It is neither feminine or masculine. The rose is not the main symbol and it is small. They can’t say that our group is too feminine.
If we choose Foxsay, of course the group won’t be feminine, but the girls will be put aside although we outnumber the boys in our class. Girls must be represented on the logo for equality’s sake. If we choose to have two Houses the other classes will not take us seriously. We will be the laughing stock of the school because we are not able to agree among ourselves.
The best solution to solve this problem is for Foxsay to join us, the golden Roses, the only real group in this class with a real team spirit!

Reaction to Foxsay's speech

I appreciated the boys’speech because they were not afraid of speaking out and it was obvious that they had worked hard on their presentation and thought about their arguments.
Basically, they said that our choice was sexist, and I agreed with them because even motto “Pretty Dangerous” excludes boys and sounds arrogant. And yet, under all circumstances I would prefer our logo.
Moreover, the only reason why I would prefer their House is the video they made. It makes that look committed, determined and involved in what they are doing.
I don’t think it is possible to have two houses in our class because it will divide by two our chances to win the competition.
To solve this problem, I think that our House prefect should make a speech in order to respond to Foxsay’s speech and then we will vote for the best House.

Reaction to Foxsay's speech

Last week, 5 boys, members of the Foxsay Project House made a little speech. They told the class that they wanted to split up and create their own house because they don’t feel integrated in the House that the class has chosen.
It seems to me that they feel their masculinity is threatened by a rose, a small plant, but I do understand their feeling of being left apart. Besides, they said that they were willing to accept girls in their House, so I know it is not a matter of gender discrimination. I think they did a very good job and gave substance to their House and I think that its characteristics are better and stronger than ours.
I would be pleased to join them, yet I feel very conflicted because I don’t think I could keep my House captain status if I did.
I also think that having two Houses won’t be convenient. We will be a reduced number in each House and that won’t be fair compared with the other Houses in our school. It also means more work for everyone!
I wish everyone could agree on one House. But I know they won’t. So, maybe the best solution would be to work as one house, with two separate identities outside the class.
Blending all the Houses ‘characteristics would be a good solution, but I don’t think people will agree on this either. Anyway, there will always be people unhappy with whatever decision is made. So, we need to come to an agreement that satisfies most of the students in the class.
We should make a vote with options such as:
1.      Blend the Houses
2.      Keep Foxsay
3.      Keep the Golden Roses
4.      Keep both Houses
This way, we’ll know what satisfies most people.

Reaction to Foxsay's speech

Foxsay’s speech was interesting to hear because they proposed different ideas. I understood that they wanted to create another group, and that is why I listened carefully to their proposition.
I liked the video they made, I think it was very well done and it is motivating to join their group because it gives the impression that it is a team who works hard and who is keen on getting points during the competition of the European section classes.
Their proposition is to create another House and they asked us to join them to form a team. Their argument is that the House we have chosen to represent our class doesn’t suit them because they think it is too feminine. And more, they don’t agree on the name we have chosen, “the Golden Roses”, nor on the choice of a logo which is a lion with a rose.
They suggested another name “Foxsay” and the logo will be a fox. Their characteristics are being cunning, having willpower and a good sense of leadership.
I think it is not a good idea to have two houses inside our class because it is a competition against the other classes and we must be a team, we must stick together and share the same ideas to represent our class.
I think the best solution to solve this problem is to make a compromise. We could mix the ideas of the boys and those of the rest of the class in order to create a new House that would suit all the students.

Reaction to Foxsay speech

In Foxsay’s speech, the members of the group vaguely explained their goals to the class. They showed us a video. I really liked the idea of making a video presentation in which you could see the qualities of the group through words like: cunning, self-confident and leadership, willpower, sharpness.
At the end of the video their logo appeared which was an orange fox. And yet, I was disappointed that it was so small, it didn’t stick out.
The arguments they put forward to keep and defend their House were as follow: Our Golden Roses logo seemed too feminine to them.
As the vice-captain of the Golden Roses I don’t think that our logo is too feminine, on the contrary there is a lion in the centre holding a rose in its mouth. Below it is written “Pretty Dangerous”.
What’s more, we had a vote to elect a house and I do not understand why we need a second House in addition to ours or else we should vote again between both Houses and stick to the winner. As far as I’m concerned this would be the best solution.
In Foxsay, there are only boys and in the Golden Roses there are only girls. So, we must mix with the others.
A vote is necessary to make us all agree.

Reaction to Foxsay's speech

I think Foxsay’s speech was great. They worked hard and made a very good video to explain their problem. They found our coat of arms too feminine especially the rose. But I think the rose is discreet, we see the lion more which isn’t that feminine.
Making two Houses would separate the girls from the boys. It’s a bit sexist.
I think the best solution would be to mix our coats of arms and our logo.
