Last week, 5 boys, members of the Foxsay Project House made a little speech. They told the class that they wanted to split up and create their own house because they don’t feel integrated in the House that the class has chosen.
It seems to me that they feel their masculinity is threatened by a rose, a small plant, but I do understand their feeling of being left apart. Besides, they said that they were willing to accept girls in their House, so I know it is not a matter of gender discrimination. I think they did a very good job and gave substance to their House and I think that its characteristics are better and stronger than ours.
I would be pleased to join them, yet I feel very conflicted because I don’t think I could keep my House captain status if I did.
I also think that having two Houses won’t be convenient. We will be a reduced number in each House and that won’t be fair compared with the other Houses in our school. It also means more work for everyone!
I wish everyone could agree on one House. But I know they won’t. So, maybe the best solution would be to work as one house, with two separate identities outside the class.
Blending all the Houses ‘characteristics would be a good solution, but I don’t think people will agree on this either. Anyway, there will always be people unhappy with whatever decision is made. So, we need to come to an agreement that satisfies most of the students in the class.
We should make a vote with options such as:
1. Blend the Houses
2. Keep Foxsay
3. Keep the Golden Roses
4. Keep both Houses
This way, we’ll know what
satisfies most people.
